The Alliance

The alliance "Nazifrei! -- Dresden stellt sich quer" was formed in October 2009. Back then, the "No Paseran!" alliance held a campaign conference in Dresden. It was their goal to involve more groups and initiatives in the campaigning process towards mass blockades against Europe's largest Nazi march.

In February 2010 it was the participation of over 12000 people from different backgrounds that eventually stopped the Nazi march.

In February 2011 over 20000 people managed to block the proposed marching route of the Nazis. However, a negative connation remained. An escalating strategy by the police and massive repression of the authorities against participants in the blockades and other activists marked the aftermath of the successful blockades. However, the goal of separation was not reached. On the contrary, the alliance grew and experienced large support and solidarity.

Finally, in 2012 we reached our self-set goal (for the time being) to abolish the former largest Nazi march in Europe. On the evening of Feb. 13th many thousands of people already shortened the so-called "Mourning March" of the Nazis to a few meters around the block. The consecutive large Nazi march on the following Saturday (Feb, 18^th ) was then cancelled by the Nazis themselves beforehand as they again faced a broad campaign for blockades. Instead of them, far over ten thousand people opposing the Nazis characterised the city that day with their determined and quite vocal demonstration.

Actively involved in the campaign to stop any Nazi acitivity in Feburary 2013 and 2014 by human blockades remain to be Antifa Groups, Unions, Political Parties, Youth and Student organisations as well as initiatives and committed individuals.
